Beginners by Christian Lee Hutson was the first work of his that I had heard after it was on Jeremy Bolm's (Touché Amoré/ First Ever Podcast) 2020 Top 10 Albums list. This album starts strong with "Atheist", a song about growing up, or I guess getting older. The midway mark of the album "Northsiders" is a beautiful song memorializing a friend who has passed and what adolescence looks like in hindsight. The album closer "Single For the Summer" leaves us with the message that "Things are gonna turn around any day now." I hold onto that optimism, now more than ever.
