Formed in the early part of the 90's, Word Salad were part of the burgeoning New Mexico hardcore scene with Grimple and Logical Nonsense. The contact for a show in Albuquerque, they developed friendships and connections that allowed them to tour the US extensively in the 1990s with Savaanh, Georgia's Damad and other bands. They self-released their first 7" "Punk In Drublic" before recording a second 45 for the Prank Records label-recorded at Guerilla Euphonics at the same time Damad were recording "Rise and Fall" in another part of Oakland. Always outlandish in attitude and full of insane tour stories, this carried over to the over the top artwork, lyrics and music of their "Deathmarch 2000" LP also released on Prank Records.
Word Salad disbanded in the early part of 2000's as band members moved to different parts of the U.S. and both guitarrist Jase Freakley and Sonny played in the band Watch Them Die with Members of Grimple. In 2006 Word Salad began playing intermittant reunion shows with enough regularity to consider themselves back together as an active band.
