Cameron was formed in the summer of 1999, by a chance meeting between Patrick McCay and Nicholas Franklin at a music store in New Jersey. They conversed over stickers on Pat's guitar, traded phone numbers, and began to practice, with Nick's friend Tom Mellon on drums. After a nationwide search, and placing a flyer that made no sense whatsoever at a local record shop, Joe DeCarolis entered the fold as bass player. After a few months of awkwardness, a demo tape, and a final lineup revision that involved only 2 guitars, not 3, Cameron finally took shape, with a sound highly influenced by the likes of Fugazi, the Cure, Radiohead, and the Pixies. Many, many shows followed including regular stops at Philadelphia's Pontiac Grille, and jaunts all across PA, NJ, even a few trips north to CT and NYC. After two years, one full length CD, one split 7", a few compilation tracks, and that song that everyone called "the 'this is what you wanted' one", Cameron collectively called it quits one night in Levittown, PA. They'd had a good run, playing with some great bands, writing heartfelt songs that they all believed in, and ending with a show at the legendary CBGBs in New York, playing with Walter Schriefels, of Gorilla Biscuits and Quicksand fame. Three of the remaining members have gone on to form the Hoover Damn. In the upcoming months, the Cameron "Substance" CD (possibly 2xCD) will be released, collecting all comp and 7" songs and rehearsal/demo songs that never saw the light of day. A possible second disc could contain live recordings, showcasing the different life some songs had in contrast to their studio recordings.
