A Worcester hardcore kid since around 1994, she was always looking to contribute to the scene, but never sure of just how to go about it. Upon returning to her hometown after a stint chasing Kerouac type wanderlust around this beautiful country, she quickly got back into the local scene. She didn’t have to look further than her own neighborhood to meet new friends. Ironically, the Youth Attack crew had grown up on the same street as her, and they even went to the same elementary school (Nelson Place) growing up. One day Alex (YA, The message, I Rise) played for Erika a basement recording of his new band with his little brother Nicky on vocals. She was blown away. The new band was named I Rise. They recorded an epic 6 song demo with Jay Maas at Getaway Recordings in February of 2007. The band only wanted to release a 4 song demo, which left 2 songs up for grab. Upon hearing this news Erika immediately suggested that they take the two extra songs and release a split 7″ with her friend’s band that just started up called Soul Control from Providence, RI.<br />
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The Soul Control dudes had heard the I Rise demo and were totally down. A few weeks later they headed into the studio with Jay Maas to record their demo and threw down an extra track just for the split. With encouragement and lots advice from numerous friends the I Rise/ Soul Control split was a huge success. Both bands signed to bigger labels shortly after their demos came out and blazed the country in the summer of 2007. Eightfold Path records had begun.
